86' Heater Core Bypass help

86' Heater Core Bypass help

Im pretty sure the heater core in my 86 ranger is bad(smoke coming through the vents smells like antifreeze). Although im not sure. How would I make sure thats what it is and how do I bypass it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just change it, it's a 30 dollar part and takes 20 minutes to change.
