93 Ranger AC High Side Switch

93 Ranger AC High Side Switch

Hello Folks. It has been over 30 years since I worked on a car's air conditioning, so I hope this question doesn't sound stupid but here goes: did the 93 Ranger 3.0 have a high pressure switch? My AC stopped working just over a year ago. It was a R12 system. Since it is 27 years old I decided to replace everything. I installed new hoses, compressor, drier, evaporator, 8 oz of oil, and condenser. I can pull a vacuum and it holds. The compressor will not cycle and draw in freon though. The old hose has a broken switch on the high pressure side, but there are NO WIRES that would have plugged into the switch anyway. The harness is sealed and the old, broken switch looks very dirty (like it's been getting dirty for 27 years). The only wires I see go to the compressor clutch. The new hose has a plug where a switch *might* go. Also, the old hose has yellow marker written on it like it came from a used parts store. Since the truck was made the year of the switch from r12 to 134 I'm wondering if the truck was manufactured without a high side switch??? How can I get my compressor to draw in freon, bypass the relay jumpers??? Will I hurt the compressor doing this? I love my Ranger and have had it since 95; the AC worked great until a year ago and I just feel that the switch on the old hose was sealed and never worked. Am I crazy?

The R12(w/CFC) only had one switch, cycling switch

High pressure switch was added for non-CFC "freon"

1994 diagram here, that's when "they" were changing over

Thank you for your quick response and for the diagram. I'll try charging the system again and see what happens. I feel better knowing the lack of a high side switch isn't keeping the compressor from cycling.
