AC/Power steering bracket
AC/Power steering bracket
I have a 2007 Ranger with a 3.0. I have to replace the ac compressor and two of the bolts snapped off. The remaining studs were too damaged to be removed with heat and a Vice-Grip. i cut them flush and attempted to drill them out only to have one hole drift too far for recovery and the other has the bit snapped off in it's hole. Looking at the mounting for the ac compressor it looks like the ac compressor, power steering pump, serpentine idler, and serpentine tensioner are bolted to a aluminum cast bracket. I found two of the mounting bolts, but i know there has to be more. Would anyone know where any more of the mounting bolts are located? Thanks!
I had to take that same bracket off of my '06 2.3L when I replaced the head.
May I suggest going to a junkyard to just replace that whole bracket? Might be easier (and a better fix) in the end ...
EDIT: It looks like that is what you are doing. There are 5 bolts on the 2.3 if I remember correctly. I had a light in there, but found number 5 feeling around with my fingers. Couldn't see it.
Good luck!

Thank you for your response. Yes, there are 5 mounting bolts. One of them is camouflaged as mount for one of the power steering hoses. The Ford engineer responsible for that is a very, very evil person! I will be providing pictures when I get another from the salvage yard (The old one was destroyed trying to remove the broken stud).
