I don't think I had but a trickle when I opened it. It's above the resting fluid level, so it's just some backflow from the piping. It's not bad.

Uhhh...don't take it out when the engines running though...

Pull over somewhere and turn off the engine. It'll take about 30 seconds...

Anyone have pics of the Trans Temp sender in the cooler line? Which line (input/output) should I tap into?

I'm putting my Oil Pressure sender in tomorrow and want to put the sender in for my Trans Temp. with a "T" in the cooler line.

Do you have a trans cooler? If so I would put it in before the cooler cause then you know what the trans temp is.

Have you thought about putting it in the transmission itself? I bought a T thing to do it in the line but the tranny has the bolt on the side(dont know about 94's) a picture is posted elsewhere in this thread it was so easy remove the bolt put in sender. Just a thought

A4LD's are supposed to have the same port in them. He should have it too I do believe.

Well . . . I tried putting my Trans Temp sender in one of the two plugs which apparently eliminated my 2nd gear. I put the 3" long plug back in and 2nd gear is back, I have not tried the other because I'll just tap into my cooler line.

A = where sender was, when sender in I do not get 2nd gear.
B = another plug, have not tried yet

Size: 50.7 KB
C = 1/8" to 1/4" adapter
D = Trans Temp sender, 1/8" threading and only about an inch long.

Any other suggestions? I'm about ready to go buy a "T" to read into the cooler lines.

By the way, 5R44E and 5R55E's run pretty hot -- about 195 F on a hot day with hill climbing. Full synthetic transmission fluid to my mind is a MUST. I use Amsoil (what else, lol) but there are several out there that have less degradation at high temp.

Under lesser load I'm running at the more nomal 175 to 180 F. It's interesting to watch it and with the sensor actually in the transmission it's a pretty good indication.
Does it sound right that my A4LD runs and stays at just over 150*F? I love having them actually hooked up I'm gonna kill someone watching these things haha

I'm at 150 all day.

Unless I downshift and keep it at 4krpms or above, it stays around 135-150. I don't have synthetic fluid, nor do I have much as far as engine mods go.

Pretty much stock temp.

When I'm ofrroading 165 is the norm...I hit 180 when I spin a lot and if I'm really really stuck trying to get out.

Those are your band adjustments for your tranny. I'm not a tranny guy, but if you messed with those you probably need to have your tranny checked & adjusted. The port you're looking for is closer toward the tail shaft, just past the shift linkage.

Alright I got mine wired up today. I think I hooked up the hot wire to the wrong red/yellow one cause it only comes on if I turn on my headlights and stays on if I turn them off.

I don't know how your transmission is working properly, with all of that build-up of mud!!!

The gauges look great!

John, I have some questions about your oil gauge install. What type of lines did you run from the gauge to the sending unit? The lines supplied with the kit are nylon..I don't feel real comfortable using those. Did you use braided stainless steel lines? Also, How did you connect the lines to the top of the analog sending unit? It seems like it should be simple, but this has me confused...

Dude, you should NOT have removed that! It's the band adjuster for the 2nd gear band. That is NOT where I showed to put it.

When replaced, it has to be put at a very specific torque to make the transmisstion work right. That nut around it is the locknut to keep the adjuster from moving.

Sounds like you have a "mechanical" gauge. That type routes the actual oil up to the gauge and actuates it with the hydraulic pressure of the oil. There's no "sender" on those really -- just an adaptor to allow connection of the plastic "impulse" line to the gauge.

I used an electrical gauge that has a pressure sensor that sends it's signal back to the gauge electrically. I don't like mechanical oil pressure gauges because if it ever comes apart in the truck -- it's a mess!!!
