I just bought a 2001 4.0L Ranger. I was curious though, when i bought it i never had this problem but the last couple of days the airbag light on my dash has been blinking and then just staying on like the airbag is turned off even though i have the airbag in the on position. Any ideas what might be causing my problem? thanks for the help.

 

whod u buy the truck from? if a dealer, take it back.

if private party, go up to autozone and have em pull the codes.

oh and check the connectors under the seats, if their disconnected, it will throw a light.

Count the number of times the airbag light flashes. It'll flash "x" amount of times, pause briefly and then flash "x" amount of times again.

3 Common examples for 01/02 Rangers (maybe other years too)

The airbag lamp in the instrument cluster will flash the code/s so be prepared to count them right after starting your Ranger.

2 flashes - pause - 7 flashes (code 27 or 2-7) means that the PAD (Passenger Airbag Deactivation) switch has a blown bulb. For this, you can either replace the bulb (there is a "how to" somewhere) or buy a new switch.

4 flashes - pause - 6 flashes (code 46 or 4-6) is the driver side seatbelt pretensioner has incorrect resistance.

4 flashes - pause - 7 flashes (code 47 or 4-7) is the passenger side seatbelt pretensioner has incorrect resistance.

Both 46 and 47 can usually be corrected by turning the ignition to off and then unplugging and cleaning the contacts of the seatbelt pretensioner connectors. Check for codes after reconnecting them. Follow the seat belt under the seat to find the seatbelt pretensioner connectors.
