Alternator Elec Connector Removal on 4.0 sohc: How To Remove?

Trying to replace thermostat on 2011 4.0 sohc. It would make the access better if I could move the ground lead cable/harness (to the alternator) out of the way. Got the 1/2" nut off for the ground strap terminal lug. But the gray connector just beneath, that is part of the harness, won't budge off. And that harness can't be moved till that connector is off.

It looks like I have to depress a tab on the firewall side of connector to release the lock that allows the connector to be pulled off. I have tried all means to get it loose. Trying not to force too hard and break the connector.

Any knowledge on how this connector releases and how to get it off w/o damaging the connector? And not removing the alternator :-)
