Auxilliary Power Port
First let me say I know nothing much about electricity .....I may be able to ...with some instruction do something if given instructions...I have an 02 Ranger 4.0 lti..4x4......I like others have a cig lighter and one aux power outlet..i have a portable GPS that i want to use but I found out these outlets are ALWAYS on when i even turn off the key.. I want it off when i turn the key off like the radio does... I found..in the manual a diagram of the fuses in the fuse panel and see where the aux outlet is wired and i see where the radio is wired to the back of its fuse....Is there a way to make this aux outlet/port to turn off power when key is turned off like ...say the radio does? I just dont wanna rely on me remembering to pull the plug out of the socket all the time... My new highlander works great...no pwr when key off....Im pretty handy on doing things, I just need shown or told what to do and what to do it with..Thank for yr time..

You will need a test light or Volt Meter
Google: automotive fuse tap
These allow you to remove a fuse in the cab fuse box then tap the power from that fuse to use on an added device
This Tap should have a place for TWO fuses, the one you took out and a new fuse, probably 10amps for the GPS
What fuse to tap?
Thats where the test light/volt meter comes in
You want a "Key On" fuse, like the Radio Fuse
So you need to test the fuse HOLDER with key off and key on to verify it is off with the key.
The fuse HOLDER has TWO contacts, one is Power the other is Load
Battery--------key-------(power)fuse(load)----------Radio
Obviously when fuse is removed only the POWER contact will have 12v with key on, and no 12v with key off, find the Power contact, the other will be Load
So first step is to find a Fuse slot that meets your requirements, power only with key on, and if you also want it on in ACC key position test for that as well
Now there are a couple of options
I think the POWER POINT(AUX) port uses Fuse 22(20amp) in the cab fuse box, you will need to test for that, and it is the only thing connected to that fuse.
Then test Power and Load connections for it
From your installed Fuse Tap there will be a wire lead to hook up the added device.
You can connect that wire to the LOAD connector in Fuse 22 slot, that can be done with another fuse tap as well but single contact type with no connection to Power contact in that fuse slot
Or you can run a wire, 10gauge, from Fuse tap wire to the AUX Port, disconnect factory 12volt wire and connect you new wire in its place, do not disconnect GROUND wire from AUX port if there is one.
Some devices are bolted to the Cab's metal so that is the GROUND "wire", other devices have an actual GROUND wire, which needs to stay connected
