Battery dead but could it be more?

So a couple days ago my Ranger barely turned over when I tried to start it but it did and I thought it was dead but I drove it around for a bit to try and charge it but when I stopped and tried to start it the same thing happened.

A couple days later I tried to start it and I got the dreaded click so the battery was dead, but my question is; would a stock battery with 60 000 KM's (35 000 miles) die like that? Should I get a new battery or investigate if there's something wrong with my alternator or something?

Normally, the miles on your vehicle have little to do with when your battery gives out. You have an '05 ranger and the dealer lots are stocking 2011 vehicles. I'd say five or six years usage for a stock battery sounds about right to me.

My stock '05 battery is still strong, but batteries today give little warning....they just up and die really fast.

Get one with the most CCA's that will still fit into your battery tray, and has the correct post placement.

Check to make sure it's charging at the battery posts also, if you have a volt meter or know someone that does.

X2 because if you dont and your alternator is going out you will just kill a new battery, the voltmeter should read somewhere around 14.4 volts or so with the engine running.
