I have a cluster apart from an 05 to do a red LED conversion and am looking at both superbrightleds.com and autolumination.com and there are many bulbs that will fit with different beam patterns and styles etc. I am assuming that a larger beam pattern will be better for this application? I have done a little searching on threads but there is always consideration of trying something different or getting longer/shorter bulbs. Anybody have any recommendations or tried this who can teach me from their successes or mistakes? I also plan on doing some reflectors and sanding the green off the back of the lens' and spraying them red to help keep the hot spots to a minimum.

Jp7 and Motounplugged are the two members here who have it. Both have build threads. I beleive both used a combination of plug ins and solder ins on theirs.

 

Everybody says stay away from the plug ins use the 360 degree strips, but I really dont have the patience to be soldering in little wires to the board unless i have to. I might eventually but have an idea to cut out the hot spots i want to try but if it does not work out i will suck it up and start soldering. I am going to use reflectors behind, make covers for the top. (like headlamps) and paint the sanded off green red and it should cut down the hotspots as much as possible.

 

my plug ins work fine i tried red and didn;t like it though now its all blue
and i bought 8 of the WLED B-120s off of superbrightleds.com
6 for gauge 2 for hvac. i dunno if its any different on the 05

 

I have 10 bulbs in my cluster. I am going to have to pull off my bezel and hvac to see whats in there but i am assuming 2/3 behind the hvac. I am going to do my 4x4, fog, steering wheel and light switches as well eventually but i can assume each of those only has 1 bulb. And I am not worried about the radio because the double din i plan on getting you can change the colors.
I was considering blue, but everybody does blue and i want something different, plus my truck is red. And supposedly red light does not diminish your night vision as much as other colors.

 

i got the red because my truck was red too haha i got sick of it quick but it doesnt' look bad. just not for me. my headlight switch and 4x4 switch is done so is my fog switch. i didn' bother with my steering wheel since they don't even light up anymore lol

 

Jp7 just convinced me to go with the soldered in components. I was hesitant about it but it's just as well to learn from others experiences and do it right the first time. And I have done quite a few hours of circuit fab class back in my school days so I should be able to handle it.

 

With some research and experimentation I could get the oznium flexstrips to work just as good as the components, but it would require internal cluster modifications. If I ever do another cluster I'll do this.
