When I turn the truck on with no lights on , push the break down the break lights come on.while the break lights on, I turn the bleaker on , and the break lights goes out ,but the bleaker doesn't work. Flip off the blinker break lights works . Can anyone help itt driving me nuts.
Welcome to the forum
1989 will have 2 Flasher units, one for turn signals and one for 4-ways
The 4-way flasher and brake lights share a fuse that has power all the time
The turn signal flasher has a separate fuse that only has power with key on, should be a 15amp fuse in cab fuse box
This fuse usually powers the Reverse Lights(back up lights) as well, so see if those work, if not then you have a blown fuse
In 1989 the brake light bulb and turn signal bulb are shared, so when you move the turn signal lever up or down it will cut Brake light power to that side so turn signal can flash, so what you describe is Normal as far as the brake lights, but you have no turn signals
Check for a blown fuse, if Reverse lights work fuse is OK
On the front of the cab fuse box you will see a Round cylinder, that's the Turn Flasher unit, the 4-way flasher is on the Backside of fuse box, if you turn on 4-ways you can reach around and feel it clicking
These are both the same flasher units, so interchangeable if you want to use the working one for testing
They just have 2 prongs on the bottom, and can be pulled out of fuse box, there are no clips holding them, just wiggle and pull
