CEL and code 27

CEL and code 27
I just got my 1998 Ford Ranger XLT this week and I love it. I replaced some of the dash lights today (it was a trade in and the guy before took out the airbag and check engine lights) and when I started it up, I got a code 27, but my CEL was on also. Is this normal? I know that the 27 code is a pretty simple fix, but should I be worried about the CEL? Will it go away when I fix the passenger airbag light? Thanks for any help or advice.

CEL(Check ENGINE Light) won't come on for seat belt or airbag issues as these are not part of the engine or drive train.
So no it won't go away if SRS system is repaired
code 27 I assume was read via the flashing SRS light
'98 uses an OBD II system so most auto parts stores will read the codes from that system for free, write them down there will most likely be more than one.

The airbag code 27 is an easy fix. I just bought a used 2000 Ranger 4x4; after the 2nd day of ownership, the airbag light flashed the 2, then the 7 code. This is simply the bulb burned out on the circuit board of the passenger airbag disable module. it's the one where you put the ignition key in it, and turn it to disable. If the bulb burns out, the code 27 is set. To fix, you only beed to buy a 12 volt bulb from any electronics store like radio shack, and solder it onto the circuit board and your good to go.
No doubt this has been talked about here already. A simple two dollar or less fix.
