Brake light issue 97 Ranger
Brake light issue 97 Ranger
Hey there evet\ryone.
New to the group and hope someone can help me out.
Now into the weeds we go.
I got pulled over last week for a tail light out. 97 Ranger rear brake light bulb 3157. Easy enough.
I decided to try LED bulbs.
With the truck not started, I turn on my lights and everything is fine as it should be. Rear lights come on and go double bright when I push on the brake pedal.
Then things get weird. When I start the truck, lights _off_ my rear lights come on with the headlights (dim day time running lights). With the truck running, when I turn my lights _on_ the brake lights come on double bright and do not turn off. So essentially when I am driving with my lights on, my brake lights are on all the time.
I have checked the brake switch and it seems fine. Other than that I have no idea where to go.
Help before i get another ticket and my truck fails inspection in three months....
Cheers

Welcome to the form
Put back in the original bulbs, yes even the burned out one, and see if problem goes away
If so then maybe the LED bulbs are the issue
I can't think of any way the DRL(day time head lights) would power the tail lights
Is the 3rd brake light on the cab on as well?
That comes directly from brake pedal switch, it doesn't go thru the turn signal switch like rear brakes lights do
