Hi all, hope someone can help me!!

2016 Ford Ranger Limited. The brake lights stopped working, did the basics at first, replaced bulbs, replaced brake light switch, checked wiring/earth etc. No luck.

I have plugged diagnostics in and the BCM complains there is a short to ground on brake light circuit. If I clear the fault they work again but only for a short period of time. If I run a test via diagnostics and leave the brake lights on, they stay on for about 5 minutes then the fault code appears and they go off.

The high/centre brake light works perfectly

I have read stories that the BCM module can go bad causing these issues, but I cannot afford to replace this at the moment.

My question is, can I run the power from the centre light to the rear brake light bulbs to get them working without upsetting the system??

You likely won't have turn signals if you do that.

Because the turn signals flash on and off. Your 3rd brake light doesn't. So routing power from your 3rd brake light won't cause your turn signals to flash on and off.

So your turn signals are not your brake lights turning on and off?
