Brake line width doesn't match fitting '94

This is for a 94 ranger 4x4 extended cab.

I'm replacing the steel line that goes from the front of the vehicle to the rear brakes. The line that I pulled/cut out is 3/16, but the fitting at the front does not match that. The front of the line connects to the RABS / proportioning valve, near the front left tire. The fitting for this connection, is for 5/16, although its interior diameter fits the 3/16 line perfectly. Outwardly its 5/16, inwardly its 3/16. I have not heard of this before and am unsure what to do. I'm pretty sure its the stock setup for this vehicle. I know the second owner and he tells me never had that worked on. I'm the third owner.

Any thoughts on this are appreciated. Also do people put lock-tight on brake line fittings? Thanks

Welcome to the forum

First Ford truck?

Brake line fittings are whatever was in the box when they were assembled

I am sure some years used the same size on all fittings, I have just never worked on one that did, lol.

Not uncommon for that rear brake line to rust out
My 1994 is the same, front of my rear brake line matched up with replacement line, but had to use an adapter on the back end of that line to match axle line.
Parts store was out of that adapter, so I got a short bendable brake line, matching new line, and the correct fitting for axle line, then paid brake shop $10 to cut off one end and put on new fitting and double flair it

I haven't use lock tight on brake lines, compression fittings usually don't loosen up, but would hurt to do it
