Brake pedal not returning
Brake pedal not returning
Hi guys,
my brake pedal suddenly stop returning, being a 2003 ranger 2.3 I thought the brake cylinder was bad, so I replaced it but pedal still stays down when I press it. Could it be the booster that’s causing the problem or is there a vacuum line that could be the culprit? Can you guys please share your thoughts?
thanks in advance!

Do the brakes stay on when the pedal doesn't come all the way back up?
Engine off
Press brake pedal 4 times see if it comes back up on the 4th time, should be very hard to press after 3rd time
Start engine, count to 10, shut it off
Press brake pedal 3 times, should have power assist all 3 times and pedal gets harder on the 4th press
This test if power booster is OK
If you pull the pedal back up does it stay up or go down again?
If it stays up the bushings on the pedal assembly may be bad, see if there is side to side play in pedal arm
When you put on the new master did you adjust the nut so the rod in the Booster was just touching the Master piston when it was all the way on?

no, with pedal down, I’d have to press it a bit for the brakes to activate
