CB Problems...

So my CB hasn't really worked since the day I put it in. I can hear people transmit fine. But when I transmit they just hear static, it has done this on more than one CB, is it my speaker or something else? Would it be easier just to but a new one?

Thanks

thought I might answer this while I'm lookin at CB stuff...

I would borrow someone else's mic and try that, if it works then you got a bad mic, if it doesn't, check all conenctions and if it's fine, your CB might be bad.

If there are any truck stops near by, or places that sell CB stuff like radio shack or something or a actual CB shop (they can look at it) you can buy an aftermarket mic for cheap...

When I used to drive a truck, I had a similar problem. I could hear everyone else, but nobody could hear me. When I would key up. it was dead. Come to find out , one of the wires in the mic came loose. All the guy at the cb shop had to do was re-connect the wire and the mic worked perfectly. The mic that I have was about $40. It's an Astatic. Matter of fact, I've still got that mic and my cobra 29 LTD classic bolted in behind my pass. seat. Throughout all the bumps, it still works. One other possibility is to check the the end of the chord where the plug is. The wires can come loose there also.

Rocky
If you want a good mic that will last and sound real good, get an Astatic or a roadking.

There should be a light that that stays on and when you transnit, it turns from green to red. That's how it is on my cobra 29. And right below that, is another light that lights up red if the swr's are not calibrated. Just like shadyluke said, it can burn up your radio. When you can, Key up your mic and see if the red light comes on. If it does, calibrate the swr's by tuning your antenna. You want your swr's to be about 1.5 or less. What kind of antenna do you have? You tune them diff. ways depending on if it is fiberglass or a whip. Fiberglass have tips in them you either lower or raise. If you have a whip or a metal llike a magnet mount, you either raise or trim the antenna. If you are able to calibrate your swr's yourself, put your cb on channel 1 and check them. Then put it on channel 40 and check them. Depending on which one is higher, you either have to lower or raise the tips of the antenna or raise the antenna or trim off. I can't remember which way it goes. Maybe some that does can chime in>
