Cigarette Lighter Mod
On my 99 Ranger the original Cigarette Lighter tore out of the center dash section which seems to be a common problem (All the used ones I found were broken the exact the same way). I at first tried to repair it, but nothing held it in place strong enough.
I own 2 Land Rovers and I had a spare Cigarette Lighter sitting in my tool box. It has a clear green ring around it that includes a light bulb mount and the actual metal piece that slides in the center and locks into place. I removed the remainder of the broken ring that held the original into place and filed down on the hole a little in order for the Land Rover Lighter to slide into place. I then spliced into the A/C dash lights so now I have a nice new Lighter for my Cell Phone adapter to plug into and it looks totally stock and lights up at night.
I've priced the assembly at LR and it's $20.00 complete with the bulb. The center dash sections I found were used and were going for $40.00. Of coarse mine was free, but I think it's nice little upgrade vs the stock unit and it's held into place much better.
I know it's my first post, but I just thought I'd help anyone that has the same problem with their center dash section. My 99 Ford Ranger is my company work truck and I spend a lot of time in it each day and it's a great little truck.
