Compatible Transmissions - '96 2.3 Ranger

Hello Everyone,

I am hoping to find some help for a list of compatible transmissions for my '96 Ford Ranger, 2.3 Liter, Extended Cab, 2-Wheel Drive, Manual Tranny. I am needing to replace my transmission, and can't help but take advantage of the $100 deal my local U-Pull-It salvage yard offers for transmissions. I've climbed under a number of Rangers to see my options, and I'd just like to avoid wasting too much time in the process of doing this swap. The varieties of Rangers at the salvage yard ranges all around, from non-extended cabs, 4-wheel drives, and many other differences and converted forms of rangers from business trucks to off-road modded ones... I'm hoping to hear how many years Ford Rangers used the same stock transmissions as mine, and in which varieties of Rangers. Any help is greatly appreciated, even if you just refer me to someone to ask directly! Thanks and Drive Safe!

Ryan

Here's some more info:

So after getting some more info, here's what I've got on it now, and what I'm looking at as option at the salvage yards:
My truck's transmission has a label reading of:
F57A
AA
C667923

The varieties of label codes I found, besides 1 that was identical but on a heavily worn looking ranger, were:
(BEST LOOKING OPTION FOR QUALITY, ON A RANGER WITH ONLY 130K ON THE ODOMETER)
F67A
AAA
C924915

(NO KNOWN QUALITY INFO FOR THESE BELOW)
F87A
AB
D877541

F57A
AA
C577294

F87A
CA
D490964

4L54
CA
E362454

So would anyone know if any of these are interchangeable with mine? Preferably the one at the top, on the ranger with 130K?

Thanks for any help from yas out there!

I believe the F57A AA or AB is an earlier build of the M5R1 (88-94) while the F67A AAA was an upgraded version for 95-97. Some minor differences like shifter stub length. The F87A was built for the 2.5L engine (98-01) and is less compatible.
