Converting manual steering to power steering?

What parts are needed and how difficult do you suppose it would be to convert from manual steering to power steering? From doing research I've come to the conclusion that these are the parts needed:

Gearbox
Pitman Arm
Power Steering Pump, Bracket, Pulley, and Tensioner
Longer Belt
Power Steering Lines

Am I missing anything? Using AllData, it looks to me that the crankshaft pulley, water pump pulley, alternator pulley, and power steering pump pulley are all on the same belt. Is this correct? Are there any modifications to anything that I'll have to make, or are all of the parts just going to bolt into place?

Any help is appreciated,

Joe aka SuperKid

Thanks for the pictures. I can't tell from the picture if the tensioner is part of the pump bracket. Can you tell me if it is or not? Also, are any of the other parts of a power steering system the same for the late 80's Rangers and early 90's Rangers? I've been to a couple of junkyards and have only been able to locate one '88 Ranger. To be honest, I didn't even think to check if it had power steering or not (I was looking for a tail light at the time). But, if the parts are the same for the '88 and '91 Rangers are the same I'll go back and check it out.

If I'm able to get the parts and make it work, I'll let you know about the manual gearbox.

Again, thanks for the pictures,

Power steering upgrade, How'd this work out?

Good Morning, This is a long shot given the age of this listing but I thought I'd ask if there were any hiccups in the power steering conversion? At this point I see I need the power steering pump, the gear box, the lines, the bracket (having hard time finding this, does one exist or is the pump bolt on?), the coupling spline, the belt that accommodates the new pulley. Did you really need a new Pitman arm? Would you say an intermediate tool junky could do this in a reasonable amount of time?

Thanks for any insight.

I am coming back after a ten year vacation from my first 94 ranger 2.3 longbed. I needed another one to commute to my job which is about an hour drive away so looked and looked and found a really nice 94 short bed with a 2.3 and a 5 speed... The only thing not quite perfect was that this truck came with manual steering.. So I went to the wrecking yard and having all sorts of Rangers there to compare to I pulled everything off of a 95 to do the swap and verified with another one that was there to make sure I had everything. At first glance the air conditioning and power steering bracket mounted on the left front of the engine appeared to be the same but are not, since there is no hole for the power steering pump only a dummy idler bolted in that location, so you need the whole bracket from a power steering truck, the box itself and of course the lines, you need the Pitman arm which is also different, as well as the coupler shaft from the Box up to the steering column because the splines are different size on the power steering box. Also of note the return line into the reservoir comes from the back on the 95 and laters and comes up from the bottom on the 94 so that may a be a benefit one where the other depending on your truck.. I have spent the last couple weeks rounding up everything new that I can think of for the front of the engine when I have it apart and have not put it in but have the Box the bracket everything cleaned and painted real nice and about ready to put it in as soon as there's a break in the rain... So I will follow up when it's done finished and one finger steering 👍👍
