Have you looked over Maurice's thread in the project logs? It should be the same process, the fact that you're switching it to a 2wd tranny would only require the 2wd rear driveshaft. That should be the only difference.
so if i swapped a 2wd auto tranny in there the only difference would be the driveshaft? no pcm upgrades or anything

To tell you the truth I'm not to sure what the pcm would think if you ditched the transfer case. I was going on the fact that you wanted to go manual tranny, in which case you'd need a new pcm anyways. Maybe Maurice could answer that one for you. I wouldn't imagine it would throw any major codes......possibly flashing 4x4 lights but like I said I'm not sure.
i know nothing about tearing into the transmission...how much are we talking? how hard would it be to convert?
auto to auto you won't need a new PCM. The 4wd is controlled by a seperate controller. Just swap one trans for the other and install a 2wd driveshaft.
If you want to keep the 4wd transmission and install a dummy transfer case, I have one that I will sell you for $50. Then you could use your tranny and rear driveshaft. It is from a 2wd Bronco II with the dummy transfer cases.

Same line of questioning but in a different project..My 93 4x4 auto trans PCM is bad. My local junkyard has an auto trans 2wd pcm. This will work on my 4x4 ranger? Will the 4wd still work?
I realize this is a really old thread but its the only place read chatter about interchangability of the PCM.. So, im excited.lol
