05 3.0 Edge 2WD manual to 4WD auto

I have a 05 3.0 Edge, I am interested in doing a swap to a automatic tranny and swapping it to 4X4, not a SAS. I am interested into making it an auto because I do a lot driving around the city and I am getting tired of having to shift all the time, also I don't want to do a SAS because I would not be using the 4X4 for off roading, it would be used in the winter because I live in Winnipeg and 4X4 would be a plus. What is involved in swapping it to an auto and converting it to 4X4, also around how much would this cost?

For the entire swap I would go ahead and start looking for a automatic 5r44e 4x4 transmission. You'll need the automatic's truck computer, a transfer case, the entire front driveline, 4x4 rear driveshaft and some other odds and ends. Look up RazorsEdge and 0rangeredge2 for the 4x4 swap and look up TrePaul86 for the tranmissions swap. He went from a auto to a manual but you can follow his swap and just go backwards with it.

Could this all be accomplished by just buying a wrecked 3.0 FX4 that has say rear end damage or something?

Well the FX4 would have the 4.0 engine so the computer wouldn't work. I would try to find something as close to yours as you can, that would make it easier.

Have you thought about just buying what you want and selling yours now. Be a lot less painless that way
