Okay I would like to diasable my air bags while I am offroad. I looked through the owners manual and I didn't see a fuse to pull to disable the system. Anyone know of a way that I can have them disabled by using a switch?

 

isnt there a switch to turn off the passanger one? like right next to your ash tray thingy...ya...i think thats what that thing is. but as far as the drivers one...i have no idear

 

your airbag should never deploy while you are offroad because you should never be going fast enough to have one deploy.

airbags deploy around 35 mph.

 

You Can Not Disable The Drivers Side Airbag Without Going To A Dealership, And It Is Illegal For Them To Do It So, I Would Not Attempt It!!!

 

Bah.. dont listen to them... here's what you do. Take the plugs out of the side of the steering wheel, un bolt the bolts, pull the air bag out and un plug it.

ok, what happens if while he's got that airbag unbolted, it discharges...which can happen pretty easily...you don't wanna be around an airbag when it discharges if it's not bolted down...

 

if you handle it properly and do it right, its not going to go off, its like holding a gun, doesnt mean its going to shoot someone, you are just holding it


ive taken off my airbag before to do the CruiseControl LED mod, and i know many others have, so just make sure you do it right, and handle it carefully, if you let the truck sit long enought without a battery and the power is drained (try using the radio or something) it should mean the airbag has no power, and it needs power to set it off

 

It is possible to disconnect the power to the airbag before unbolting it. There is a yellow harness on the right side of the steering column leading to a 6-wire connector and a 2-wire connector (gray/orange and gray/white wires). The 2-wire connector is for the airbag. Unplug it there while remaining clear of the discharge zone of the airbag. Then the assembly can be unbolted and removed. Of, course, you must have reviewed and complied with all warnings in the shop manual about safe airbag handling procedures.
