Dome Light

My Dome lights in my 1999 Ranger wont turn off when I close the door. The light switch was off. Where should I start looking or what is causing this?

Dome light or driver/passenger side light? If dome, I would suspect the switches on the door first, then the wiring. Then I would inspect the light fixture for corrosion or issues itself. If the driver/passenger side light I would suspect the fixture. Check all switches and connection terminals for issues or corrosion.

Most likely it's the switch at the door.. it's a commmon problem. They start to stick. There are a lot of threads about it.. try some WD-40.

Yup wd-40 the lock mechanisms first, but also double check the dimmer switch, if it's rolled all the way up, the dome will stay on.

When you say the light switch is off are you referring to the switch on the dome light or the dimmer for the dash lights?

The only thing I have on the door is the crank for my window and the switches for the dome is off. The switch for my dashboard is also off.

The latch part of the door is what you need to spray. There might also be a spring loaded thing near the hinges you can spray.

^^ this ^^

It's not a on/off switch on the door. It's the switch in the door that tells the light whether the door is open or closed.

My ranger has a dome light with no switch on the housing, so it must be controlled by the door(s) opening and the illumination dial on the dash. My problem, is that the light works, just not the way its supposed to. I have power to it. I'll have to take a pic of it to show the wiring and how it's installed. Seems like a ground problem because if one of the screws makes a connection with the body it comes on. I think its an original light, but maybe not wired/installed correctly.

I have a similar problem with my dome light in my 2010 ranger. Would there be a switch in the door frame? If so where specifically should I be looking for it?

Ha, found the switch, it is in the door itself, the black triangle piece that goes over the door pin in the frame. Lubed it up and good to go. Maybe this might help TS.
