Adding power options to my truck

Need options and opinions on what I should get.

I want in this order-
  • Keyless Entry
  • Power Door Locks
  • Power Windows
  • Remote Start
  • Alarm

I found a few on ebay, but I don't want to get screwed with the wiring. Power windows and power locks are easy. The alarm would be easy, the remote start doesn't appear to be too easy...

I found 2-

I know some viper alarms have all that stuff built in. Look into those.

Why waste your time on a keyless entry if your going to get an alarm. You can have all those questions answered with 1 thing, well, all except one. Just get a Viper or Clifford alarm with remote start. There are ones for manual and automatic transmission but you can also get an automatic one to work with a manual transmission. I wouldn't recommend getting a remote start for a manual transmission becasue my friend has a mustang and left it in key, hit the button, and off the car went into the garage door. Anyways. If you just get an alarm, get some actuators and relays and hook those up to the door locks, that solves that problem. The alarm, if programmed, will lock/unlock your doors when you arm/disarm the system. Next the remote start like I said comes in alarms such as the cliffords or vipers. For the power windows, I got a kit off ebay for 102 bucks shipped, did a little sheet metal trimming and they work great. Took me a few hours to get them both going but it was easy. I got the AutoLoc brand from the ebay sell Audio Adapters I believe, it was awhile ago but yeah. That should solve all your problems.

Yes Nate, my 01 Edge was loaded. My 05, is less than loaded.
I got the towing package, and better shocks, but skipped the power options. It was a $25,770 leftover 05, that I got for $17,800. Can't be too picky when there's no other trucks to pick from...

Did anybody click on the links to ebay listings I posted?

My list was based on importance to me. I am aware that I need power locks to have keyless entry, I'm not an idiot....well maybe a little bit...

For $199 shipped I can get- Remote start, alarm, keyless entry, power door locks, power windows and a back up sensor. CLICK HERE

OR, for $165 shipped I can get this Remote start, alarm, keyless entry, power door lock, and power window kit. CLICK HERE

Just don't cheap on the alarm, thats not something you want to go cheap with. The motors on those windows look weak. The ones I have are double the size and still not all that fast. Everything else looks good though.

What? I provided input. I told you exactly the key components you were going to need. Even gave you brands! It seems your the one not taking what we offered into consideration.

I apologize, 2 of you guys offered help, and one told me I need power door locks for keyless entry...duh

I wanted opinions on the 2 remote start systems I listed, they are in my current price range...I can't afford a Viper alarm system right now, my house will not allow me to spend money on anything else...

I have decided to get a universal keyless entry(with door lock actuators), and a power window kit. I will hold off on an alarm and remote start until I'm outta warranty. I screwed with the wiring on my 01 too much, and almost lost some warranty coverage....

I recently added the power options to my truck and went with oem components instead. It looks professional with oem parts of course (as in lock/window switches look like they belong there), the holes to install the parts are already there, and I feel better about the quality and reliability of most of the parts over, for example, the power window assembly you posted a picture of. If you don't mind doing some wiring, I suggest going with as much of the Ford parts as you can, and then add a good quality alarm or something. Of course, my way takes more time and electrical work than a kit might...maybe do a bit of a hybrid? You could use the oem switch bezels, switches, and actuators and then the harness and other electronics from an aftermarket system...

I have door actuators on my alarm and manual locks :)
Its a compustar 2wssr
I didnt feel the need for power windows.
It also has remote start and about 10 other options for it.
cost was 489$ installed (including door lock actuators)
And it has a nice range.. the "open field range" is over 6000ft but
real life its prob half a mile.

I got a Python installed (made by the mother company that makes Viper) for $300...it comes with...

1) Alarm
2) Keyless Entry (after I bought actuators for $60 installed)
3) 2 remotes (1 is a two way pager)
4) a GREAT and well used warranty

All at Circuit City...if I have any problems, they switch the stuff for free *I went mudding and fried the alarm speaker cuz I drowned it and they switched it for free, I broke TWO different 2 way pagers and they keep switching for free...I will be going with a remote start when I can afford it..(from python/viper)

I suggest this system..it kicks a$$

My opinion, hold off on the remote start and power windows, the Alarm is the most important thing..

How much is the keyless entry that you are purchasing? You might want to hold up a bit on that because an alarm acts as a keyless entry system. You don't have to spend all that much to get a remote start and a decent alarm. What is your price range?

Thats a good point but I can't stress anymore that if you get an alarm now, you can use that AS the keyless entry. you don't even have to spend all that much.

Good points have been made here...this is the feedback I was looking for...

I think I'm going to try the junk yard and find a pair of good doors to strip, and then get a decent alarm with keyless entry capability

I am assuming I would need just about everything in a stock door. I need to know what year range I should be looking for.

Am I looking for 2004-06, 2001-06, or 1993-06 parts?

Im finally happy that you said alarm with keyless entry cause it seems like half the people think you need 2 seperate things. For that... i'd just look for the same Gen Rangers at junk yards but good luck with that. Everytime I've got to salvage yards, junk yards, pick a parts, etc, the ones that are there are either stripped to capacity or chared because they were burned. Hopefully you will have better luck on that than I do out here. But if you do find one, get the door handle that has the button to lock and unlock the door. I just got basic actuators from my neighbors shop that he has and put those in which locks/unlocks when I pretty the lock/unlock button (ha) but the only way to unlock from the inside is just to pull the handle, its not to bad but it would be nice to have the button. Good luck.

Anybody know if I am stuck looking for 2004-2006 parts, or do I have other options.

I got another Ranger, because i loved the mods on my 01 Edge. But now I wonder why I just didn't just buy another 01-03 model....
