Quick! Need FX4 Cluster Swap Info!

Have a chance to buy a $35 FX4 cluster for my truck. I need some questions answered asap. I know I can search, but work with me please?

I need to know:

*The gauges are missing the clear plastic lense. Big deal? My other cluster should just pop the clear lense out and swap?

*This a plug and play swap? The truck is a '06 or '07, my truck is an '05.

*Odometer? How do I keep my correct mileage?

Thanks!!!

Its not plug and play from what I've heard, you have to take our your brain and swap it in the new cluster.

I am thinking the electronic clusters would be pretty hard to work on.

Take it to Ford and have them flash it for you.

I would say at least $80 if not more.

Without the clear plastic? I wouldn't think that the plastic is any big deal. I may pick it up.

Well an 02 black cluster goes for about $50 on ebay pretty consistanly.

Yours being an FX4 06 or 07 just makes it that much more valuable.

If it dosent have the clear plastic that should be a key buying point for you. I would try swindeling him down as much as possible.

I may go for it, thanks! Anyone had it flashed at Ford? Wonder what the cost on that is. I LOVE the look of the cluster...I could probably dump my factory white face cluster to recoop some $$

You can make it work without having to flash it. Just take it apart and put your stock electronics in it.

All you have to do is put your board inside of the new cluster. The rest is all cosmetic. I have videos around here that will make it easy for you, getting the cluster out is alot of work, the needles are the part that make me the most nervous.

Thanks, i actually just PMed you about that. I don't know how to get my current cluster out, the one i have was basically sitting there and i just grabbed it.

I'm looking for a quickie on what panels need to come out of my truck to get my stock cluster out. Also, how do I mess with that PRNDL cable, and get it out to swap it between clusters? The FX4 cluster doesn't have a working one on there.

I'm also looking for those videos you said you have on disassembling. Thanks!

Remove the access panel under the steering wheel, both the plastic and metal one. Remove radio bezel, go around and undo all the screws on the dash surroudning the cluster. Theres like 3 up above the cluster that are hard to see. Then pull that off. Then you should be able to un bolt the cluster and pull it out

Sounds pretty straight forward to me! lol, compared to me working on BMWs all day, just taking screws out sounds like cake. It's the BMW "invisible clips and slide this way, and use a pick to push this in at the same time" that is hard haha.

Thanks for the info! Now I just will need a little cluster disassembly info, and I'm on my way!

Well I popped the needles off the FX4 cluster like butta, so I'm going to go ahead and tear into my truck and see if I can't do it today!
