Engine Noise....??

My dad owns a 1999 F-250 (gas V8). This morning he started it up and heard a loud pop. Now with the engine running it is making a loud chugging/popping noise similar to and old farm tractor coming from somewhere around the intake manifold. His oil pressure is good and there is nothing leaking or any signs of fluid being sprayed anywhere. Anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks.

Thats a 5.4 2 valve not the 3. I'd check the plugs but I dont think so.

Check the plugs first... two of them worked their way loose on my Maxima a few years ago... talk about sounding like an old tractor, and running like one... they were hanging by the plug wires and sparking away, lol.
