F#@k!
F#@k!
I’ve got a 4.0 l 2011 Ranger 6 speed 4x4. I recently installed a wireless back up cam into it( an Auto Vox). It worked wonderfully for about a day. Then intermittently for about a day. Now I have no reverse lights, they are both dead L & R. I’ve checked fuses. Checked the wiring that I did, (I used the wire piercing clips they came with it.. any ideas on what I have screwed up here. And where are the frikkin fuses for the reverse lights...under the hood or in the cab. It seems to me that it is too much of a coincidence to have the switch go on the transmission at this instant. I’m frikkin lost here for ideas.

Fuse 20 in Cab fuse box, 10amp is used for:
Speed control module
Back-up lamps
Overdrive cancel switch
Electronic flasher (turn)
Anti-lock brake system (ABS)
You can get 2011 owners manual here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/
Best place to start would be where you tapped the backup light wire
Block the wheels
Put vehicle in Reverse and shut off the engine(you need to put it in Neutral or Park to restart)
Then use a volt meter or test light to see if you have 12v on the wire you tapped, maybe tap cut the wire
Backup light wire just runs from Switch on transmission to the rear then splits to the 2 sides
Yes, it is 99.9% more likely that the modification you did is the issue vs a bad backup light switch, but that still ain't 100%, lol
I assume you mean 5-speed but in 2011 the manual and automatic were both 5-speeds, so which one do you have?
They use 2 different switch types for backup lights
2010 wiring diagram here, 2011 should be the same

Sorry it’s a 5 speed manual....but now it’s getting to **** me off even more. I checked all the fuses their fine...took off the tail light and checked all the connections.blocked the tires all the lights both cab and outside worked with exception of the back up lights. Took it out for a drive and about 5 minutes into the drive the friken camera came on when I put it into reverse..and the bloody back up lights are working again....what the hell could be causing this??? When I try and analyze it I come to about 3 things....it’s either the clip connectors which means I should get off of my lazy *** and solder....... it could possibly be the switch on the tranny , it could be some relay involved with the backup lights,or something involved in the transmitter circuit (but that unlikely because it is simply connected onto the + and - wires, the flow to the buib doesn’t go thru it. Any guesses...this is the second time it has pulled this intermittent crap on me.
Those other lights are not on the same fuse as back up lights????
So wouldn't matter if they worked of didn't
No relays involved
I would GUESS................that your tap splice is the cause, yes, cutting the wires and at least twisting them together would be better than the tap splice, soldering and sealing would be best end plan
