Since it was a nice hot day, I turned the fan on (at the coldest setting) in my 2010 Ford Ranger FX4....it was blowing very cold air much like A/C. Switched the **** to A/C and it appeared be blowing the same very cold air. I think that I noticed this briefly last year....but didn't think much about it. Any thoughts? Warranty runs out at the end of this year.

Later in the day, I checked that the hot setting on the fan....blows hot air. Cold setting still blows very cold air (my Mazda B3000 never blew air that cold....NOTE: NO A/C on the Mazda). Thanks.

Switch to VENT ONLY, FLOOR ONLY or OFF to keep the compressor from running.

I notice that to, haven't try'd the floor setting to see if cool air blows there,
Really anoying though with the heat on the compressor kicks on and off every 5 seconds
Im pritty sure in all selections I'll have to check the floor setting, at first I thought because the compressor runs continually when I turn the dial to cool it would be cold for a minuet or two and then warm to the outside air temp but it just gets cooler and cooler, I know something's wrong but nothing will be fixed by the worthless dealer. I read the manual and it says how to get outside air but mine is always freezing cold air.
It botherd me so much I went to Kentwood ford and asked them about it and got some bogus answer I can't remember what the excuse was.
I noticed a loud bunk, bunk, sound when I turn the selector
to off with the fan speed on low it's really apparent, the truck kind of jumps.
Anyway I'm starting to go off here hope you can find a better answer than I did.
In my line of work it's called poor design.

 

Ford has the compressor running most of the time for 2 reasons. First, it keeps the bearings and seals in the A/C system lubed. Second, it keeps the interior air drier and helps defog the windshield more quickly in humid conditions. We may see this as a nuisance but, from Ford's point of view, it helps to reduce warranty and liability costs - big hitters for any manufacturer.

It is possible to install a very simple switch that would allow the driver to disable the compressor whenever desired. If this is done, it is important to run the A/C compressor now and then to keep things lubricated.

The switch mod is easy but may not be a good idea if the truck is still under warranty. The alternative is simply keeping the selector in OFF, VENT ONLY or FLOOR ONLY when the A/C compressor is not desired.

 

Ya its still under warranty, but something I'd consider afterwords. I will check the floor setting this morning on the way to work, hope your right it would be a big relief,
its not so much a bother to me that the compressor comes on all the time but I think it's related to my excessive headlight flickering when the lights are turned on.

I wish bob worked at the dealership I purchased my truck from,then maybe my 1 week old engine wouldn't have been torn apart twice just to find a pinched spark plug wire.

 

Theres a bunch of stories like that out there.
Some of those Mechanics pretend to "know it all" so they overthink a lot of stuff.
