Front axle oil seals...

Has anyone replaced the outer seals on their front axle?? I ahve one that is leaking badly and I'm curious how difficult it is and if the seal is right at the end of the axle or is it set in by some amount??

Thanks.

It's probably like most axle seals -- it's pressed n and you'll more-or-less destroy it getting it out. Then you use a large socket as a "tool" and hammer on the socket to press in the seal. I haven't done the front, but for the most part, a seal is a seal for a shaft and they are almost all the same.

I know I had the Ranger in for some work once at the stealership (cringe) and they only charged 15 bucks with parts to do it. If it was that cheap there, you probably could have your dog do it if you ask real nice Tom!

Maybe if you would help him finish his moat, he would help you do the seal!

Hey, bring him to Wharton next time and have him dig out any stuck trucks!

Hey, I think Clifford would love to play with a seal -- and the seal would probably love the moat...

When I had my CV replaced the seal started leaking badly and the shop replaced it for the price of the part, after the CV was done. So I cant imagine its too difficult.
