I needed my front wheel bearing s repacked on my 2011 Ranger after only 15,000 miles. What would cause this to be needed?

 

what makes u think u needed that?

 

can be due to driving habit, or improper setup at the factory. its an easy job though.

 

During an oil change, I was told that the wheel bearings needed to be repacked. But, since the truck was still in warranty, I should go to a Ford dealer. They agreed and did the job without cost. I bought it used with 12,000 miles on it, so I don't know how it was driven before i got it.

 

They actually "repacked" them? I have an 2008 FX4 and when I inquired at my dealer about repacking the wheel bearings, I was told they are sealed and there was no way to repack them. All you could do was replace them.

 

my 07 is a sealed bearing too, I replaced the LF so far, and it looks to be a pressed in setup... much easier to just replace the hub.

 

Is this a 2wd? I would consider it preventative maintenance. Grease is cheaper then smoked bearings.

yours is a 4x4, they use a hub, not a tapered bearing.
hes not 4x4
i repack mine every 20,000. its a hour job and i have no problems with my 33's. on stock tires id do it every 50,000



ask the right people, you get the right answers. :)

 

Trust me when I say, BUY one of these if you plan to do it yourself! Hand packing is ok, but its always messy and its hard to make sure you really get grease in where it's supposed to be, this thing will change your life. Quick, clean-er, and easy to do.
