Funky Brake Problems

So random question...
2008 Ford Ranger XLT (4.0L V6 SOHC, 4.10 axle, 4x4, 5 speed automatic)
Purchased in 2011 (March) with 39k on it, now has 51k on it

Every once in awhile, the front left brake rotor grinds and engages anti-lock while slowing down to the bottom of my circle driveway (about 73 feet of idling down slope). And only once in awhile does it sound like it is grinding while driving, but after some driving it goes away.
Is it:
Front Driver Side Rotor is warped and once it is warmed up the pad isn't scraping
or
Just needs to be replaced?

Thank You All

Semi metallic pads make noise, but I would inspect the pads as you may need a brake job.

I’d recommend removing the front wheel in question and taking a closer look. Check the pads for wear, rotor (front and back side) for any signs of abnormal wear, loose caliper mounting bolts, wheel bearing hub, etc.
