Gauges Read Zero While Driving/Then No Starts

I don't have trouble starting the truck in the morning, but after about twenty miles of driving the gauges all go to zero. If I pull over and shut the truck off it will not restart again unless I wait 7-8 hours. If I wait 7-8 hours I can restart the engine, but then all the gauge problems will happen again after about 20 miles.

The battery voltage reads 12.56 when the engine is off so the battery is fine. Am I right in assuming that this is an alternator problem then? Or is there a short circuit somewhere?

Also the voltage reading is 14.2 while the engine is running. I'm starting to think it's not the alternator

Maybe a bad PCM or GEM but hard to figure either one out
