Gear selector adjustment.
Anyone know a fix for the gear selector cable adjustment. I'll readjust mine so the pointer is centered on P but it moves to the point w/in a months time that I am not able to get the key out of the ignition until I adjust it again. I've tried using duct tape to keep the adjustment wheel stationary but that didn't work.
There are two separate cable adjustments. The one for the PRND21 indicator only affects it and should have no influence on the park issue.
The other adjustment is for the shift cable and it is at the transmission. That's the one you should adjust first to sync the lever position with the transmission. Then set the cluster indicator to match.

Were is the "shift control selector lever"
Cable/Bracket Adjustment
1. Place the gearshift lever (7210) in the (D) position and hang a 1.4 kg (3 lb) weight on the shift control selector lever.
Move the gearshift lever to the first gear position, then move back two detents to the (D) position.
Hang the 1.4 kg (3 lb) weight on the gearshift lever.
2. Raise and support the vehicle; refer to «Section 100-02».
3. Disconnect the transmission shift cable from the manual control lever (7A256).
4. Pull out the transmission shift cable adjustment lock on the shift cable body.
5. Place the manual control lever in the (D) position.
5.1 Rotate the manual control lever fully counterclockwise.
5.2 Rotate the manual control lever clockwise to the (D) position. (2 detents).
6. Connect the transmission shift cable to the manual control lever.
7. Push in the transmission shift cable adjustment lock on the shift cable body.
8. Note:
If equipped with air suspension, reactivate the system by turning on the air suspension switch.
Lower the vehicle.
9. Remove the 1.4 kg (3 lb) weight.
10. CAUTION:
To prevent damage, do not adjust the transmission shift cable in any position other than (D).
Verify that the vehicle will start only in P or N and that backup lamps illuminate in R. If not, repeat steps 1 through 7 and perform a digital transmission range sensor alignment; refer to «Section 307-01A» or «Section 307-01B».

The shift lever on the column.
I know that the factory manual gives the correct shop procedure but not many of us have calibrated shifter weights in the tool box. You can get it close enough by trial and error - that's how I did mine when I did the V8/auto swap.
It makes sense that the adjustment will get looser as the cable stretches over time. So you will probably need to tighten it a notch or 3. IIRC, the cable goes tightest when pulled to 1st gear.
Before you adjust anything, be sure to check the bolts that hold the adjuster bracket to the trans. If they are loose, the adjustment will keep changing.

Ok so far. I just replaced the shift cable and its broken housing. Good thing I have small hands and big patience!! the indicator cable slipped out of the instrument panel. when I replaced it, the pointer indicated 1st gear and would not budge when I shifted. If I pull on the red "string" the indicator moves but always returns to the extreme right 1st gear indication.
I discovered that I have adjusted the shift cable itself incorectly ( I had the shifter in Park)
and the whole shifter is touchy and balky. I know litle about autopmatic trannies. How can I get the pointer to indicate properly?
