Ghost wipers and doors ajar...
Hey the guys. I have a 99' 2WD V6 3.0L Flex Fuel Danger Ranger. Excellently maintained. Sometimes while driving when I use my turn signals, the windshield wipes will come on. Sometimes it'll be just one swipe and others it'll 3 or 4. Also, about half the time I fire up the engine, the door ajar indicator will remain on for several minutes as well as the cargo lamp. I am an Army tank mechanic and am pretty adept at mechanical maintenance, but this electrical stuff is over my head. I really don't even know where to start looking or even if the two faults are related. Any direction on this would be awesome!
well the door ajar is an easy fix...spray some wd40 in the door latch and open and close the door a few times...the wipers is just the way the stalk is designed...if you catch it on the end and push it in then your wipers will turn on
Here's the wiper fix:
Intermittent (Phantom) Windshield Wiper Fix
It sounds to me that you are accidentally turning them on when you hit your turn signal though. Th fix above if for them turning on completely at random.

ive done that already...both in mine and my grandpas...hes done that too...its annoying
First off: Thanks a ton for the input. I just finished lubing my Ranger's door hinges and I worked the pretty good. That seems to have fixed the problem!
Now, with respect to my ghost wipers: Let me first apologize. I forgot one little detail. About every 30 or 40 miles or so, the wipers will activate without me having touched the stalk. I, like you, thought at first that my little wiper problem was due to my own clumsiness (and still may be), but once the wipers started unprovoked, I began to suspect a fault.
Thanks again for your input.

I just finished cleaning the contacts inside of the turn signal lever, per instructions sent to me by Masteratarms93. I am certain this will fix my ghost wipers. My contacts exactly mirrored the faulty ones pictured in the link. I had some contact cleaner and it work great. I guess I'll know for sure 30 or 40 miles from now. Thank you Masteratarms93 and everyone else for your help. This is the first time I have ever created a thread, but this is not the first time that this forum has bailed me out. The members of this forum have proved yet again how invaluable your expertise and technical knowledge can be! Thanks again. Goodnight.
