Has anyone thought of this?

I just got to thinking the other day how I kinda want by 3rd brake light to be a dual element style. I just think it would be nice to have it running just for a little extra visibility

I already have the Buggman all red LED 3rd brake light

I'm thinking you just need to tie them into the brake lights. Am I right or wrong on this?

Just a random thought that occurred to me

i dont think this is a good idea safety wise. people behind you may think you are riding the brakes all the time. since that is the reason it does not illuminate with your regular brake lights

I'm sure Buggman could whip something up for us.

I didn't think of that, although if it was a dramatic difference between brakes and running would help, but as long as the 3rd is just as bright as the tails while they are just running I don't think many people would think you're braking

You can't even see my third brake light.
I don't even know if it works.
But its a good idea, but like Kyle said, you can't have it look like brake lights, it'd need to be like a 2-filament bulb like your tail-lights are.

I think it might not be a bad idea necessarily. I would do it as more of a rear fog light. On a clean toggle switch in the dash. That way it's only on when you want it to be. Usually just during times of bad weather. Just my 2 cents.

Thinking about it buggman should make portable (well stick on) rear fogs. (Only to be used during bad weather.) I hate seeing people running around with them on when it's a clear night. Way to bright!

i have worked on a truck that had the third brake light wires rub through and contact each other under the headliner causing the light to go on and not shut off until he hit a bump and it moved the wires again. it was confusing as hell to drive behind him

lol. You might want to check that.

But couldnt the 3rd BL slightly light as up running lights, then get a lot brighter when you press the brakes?

That's what I'm saying, make the two brightnesses a large difference

Some led light bars that go below your tailgate light up slightly with your running lights (I think)
This should be possible with the 3rd BL.

Cant you just include each side of the 3rd BL in the same circuit with the corresponding brake light?
(left side of 3rd BL with driver brake light, etc.)

Now that would be sick! Just an extra rear taillight. :-)

Someone needs to do it and make a wright up on it. ;-D

You would only need the one power source from the taillight, whatever wire will give you the variable voltage
