Has anyone thought of...

Has anyone thought of a Subwoofer in the little storage compartment in the rear doors of a Four Door Ranger? My dad got out the measuring tape and figured that you would have room for an 8" and use the plastic liner for the enclosure, and just fill it with Poly-Fill to make up for the small enclosure.

The thing is 7 inches across and 7 inches deep, so that would be plenty of room for a 8 inch subwoofer if you hung the outside lip outside of the box.

Looking at it, it seems like a decent idea--the only thing you would have to overcome is there is some wierd indentations on the inside of the door. I havent yet figured out how to get the surface of the door flat enough, but maybe one of you have some idea.

Take a look:

Thought of it, and then decided it probably wasn't worth it due to the work you'd have to put into the enclosure, and the fact that the sub would be firing into the window on the other side. Cool idea, just not feasible. Get a nice 10" downfiring sub =)

yeah i thought of trying that one time. i didnt wanna take up floor space in the ext cab so i thought of tryin it there, but i figured it would be too much work, and once i finally got it in there would probably be a ton of vibration. but it is a cool idea.

How about a Focal 5WS 5-3/8" subwoofer, Car Audio mag compared it with a 8" sub and he siad it actually went lower than the 8" did. 80W power hadling, tho. no good really unless you use it with a component system.

This Visaton 6.5" driver has a super long excursion (22mm) and that would definiety sweep more air than your average 8" sub! The biggest sealed enclosure it needs is 0.35ft3 but can only handle 70WRMS.

I have speakers made with these in them and they actually produce a lot of bass. almost as much as my LA P.3.10 sub that was in my mustang that now resides next to my comp desk. But they timbre perfectly. Also, this one can only handle 75WRMS. The paper cone sounds awesome!

Here's a 6.5" subwoofer with a 11.5mm excursion! that's almost 1/2" from a 6.5" driver! Anyways, the F3 (-3db response point) is 70hz in a 0.15ft3 which is pretty good. I'm not so sure about how it will sound in the ranger cabin, but if the enclosure were any bigger, it would definitely lower that f3. And it's only 40 bucks, so if it sounds like dookie, just pull it out.

Sound splinter makes really good sounding subs. They're 8" is really freakin massive!! it can handle serious power and uh, would probably have to be mounted backwards...

That's pretty much all I could think of...

It would take a lot of modifications, so I decided to just go ahead and build 2 small boxes to enclose 2 8''ers to fit underneath the fold down seats, which are used rarely.

When they are used, they are just used to haul around friends late night, only short trips to and from houses.

Pictures up this weekend hopefully!!
