HD Alternator?

I'm looking for a heavy duty alternator for a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport, 4.0L SOHC. The motor looks very similar to a 01-03 Ford Ranger 4.0.

Anyone know of a good site that sells them and if they come in black or anything? How many amps is the stock one vs the heady duty one?

Brenton

Hmm.. Summitracing should have some. Jegs should have some as well. I know they make black ones and chrome ones and all that jazz. I think they have like up to 200 amp ones. I am not to sure on stock i think stock is 55 or something. Dont quote me though but i know those sites should have the alternators.

Look into the Motorcraft 3G. Awesome alternator, comes in 130 and 200 Amps typically for many applications.

Try one of these. Should be able to help you with what you want.
I got one from Mr. Alternator and love it.

Not too sure about newer Rangers/Explorers, but my 96 OEM alt. was 95 amps. Same year Explorer had an optional 130 amp alt.

I upgraded to a 200A alt a while ago. I believe their evilBay user name was AlterStarts or something like that.

Anybody have any clearance issues with upgrading to a heavy duty (3G) alternator?
