Icon5 Headlights warning chime

I recently decided I didn't like my door ajar notification. So, I unplugged the wires from the door lock on driver and passenger doors. I also didn't want the dome light coming on each time I opened the door. If I want the light on, i'll just rotate the dimmer ****...

Well, I also noticed after this, that if I leave my lights on after parking, there is no chime playing to remind me to turn them off. Then, after some time of being away, I notice my lights are on.

I did some research on this, checking my worksop manuals and wire diagrams, and it seems that per circuits and testing, that the door ajar 'circuit' is part of the lights warning chime. --And, their disconnection, preventing the chime from playing.

So, my question here is, how can I get the chime back for the lights, while still having my door ajar switch unplugged and removed? --I would imagine there are some model years of Rangers that didn't include door ajar switches, and I wonder in them, how their headlight warning chime worked.

Back before fancy stuff, everything ran off the door light, as they were common and that's all was needed, so i don't believe you're going to find what you want.

So then, are you saying there isn't a way to add a jumper or whatever to 'enable' the light chime when lights are left on?

Has anyone modified things like I did, to re enable the light chime?

No, i'm saying you imagining is unlikely to be correct.

To do what you're saying, you'd need to have the noise emitter be different for one warning Vs the other, i would say that they're not, and you'd need to 'edit' what causes it to go off.

Best i can come up with would be something that looked at the circuit and only allowed it to activate if the headlights were on, otherwise ignoring (as you have it now) when the door is open.

My 91 def has door triggers that control the overhead light, tho it does not chime...
Not sure how helpful that is.

Well, as it is now, I have physically removed all cables associated with the door lock. They are unplugged from the lock assembly, as well as the other end to the associated harness behind the dash. Some of that was very difficult to do, and I don't wish to go through all that just to put all wires back, to 'remake' the door-ajar circuit for 'looking at'.

Is there anyone here that can help me 'build' something that will look at and modify the circuit?

Then alternately, would I need to physically remove the dash parts where the 'speaker' is, to modify the emitter? And, how would I edit what causes it to go off, and therein, 'enable' the lights chime to play again?

Not sure if you're seeing the link here, you want the light chime to go off, which is triggered by two things being true:

1) lights on
2) door open

You pulled the wires from the door sensors, so you're not going to get anything for this without either putting them back, or making/fitting your own door sensors - where that connects to is obviously your own choice.

no, there was no link appearing, other than the one you always have in your post, being repairs/upgrades/new stuff log. is that the link you meant?

i would like to check out the link you wrote about, so please include that in your next reply.

though, with all the trouble i had on finding the harnesses and plugs for removing the wires from under and behind the dash, without removing the dash, and removing the wires through the rubber door 'gasket'; i think if there is no way really to do this without putting things back, i will just deal with it, and try better to turn the lights off before i get outta the vehicle.

(i dont care about the door being ajar or the signal for it. i just want the lights on warning)

I'm sorry, i made a real mess of trying to write that last post for you. The link i was referring to was not a hyperlink, but the link between the door stuff you removed, and the warning you want to enable again.

You're asking for something to warn you that your headlights are turned on when you open the door.
For this to be even remotely possible, you need something to sense the door is open - connect the door circuit back up, or to put it another way, put it back to stock.

You will have a lot more work to do in order to "add" your desired functionality as opposed to editing the one that existed from the factory.
Whilst i don't know enough about circuits to assist, i do know that you will need to put something into the circuit near the buzzer thingy.

Right now, i imagine it's basically two inputs, one from the door circuit, and another from the lights, you will need to connect the door circuit through the light circuit instead of directly to the buzzer - basically meaning without the lights on, it will never get a signal.

yes, okay. i get you now on 'links'. i know nothing really about circuits either, at least, as it pertains to vehicle wire connections...

so, unless someone else comes across this thread and can instruct on circuits for this area, i may just leave it all as is. taking care to turn the lights off before i leave. and then, talking to some shop person about how they can do it.

the whole of it really is making sure my lights are off before i leave the vehicle. if that can happen, i wont need to bother with any circuit rebuilding.

thank you.
