Heater box help
Ok. Not sure if I have to actually get into the heater box or not but here is my delima.
'07 Ranger FX4
I think I might have mice in my '07. I removed a nest from between the fire blanket and the hood and also from inside the air intake box. I got a smell in the truck and I think it might be mouse nest smell. All I can think of is that there might be a nest in the heater box or somewere in line from outside to the air being blown inside. I do not get the tell tail sign of acorns and crap blowing out of the heater vents but there is a smell. I also want to wire mesh areas to try to keep anything out after I am done. I wire netted the air box in attempts to keep them out of the air box.
From what I have been reading anything newer than 94 or 95 requires the entire dash to be removed and than some good contorshinist to get some bolts behinds the engine.
Is there a simpler way to get into the box? I also don't want to deal with disconnecting the heater core and coolant head ache that comes with it.
Thanks

My wife’s 2019 ranger had a mouse problem she set non lethal traps in it with peanut butter to no avail, finally she set one of our exterminator house traps in the vehicle, that trap lets the mouse eat the bait and want to drink water whereas they leave to find water drink and explode (die you little bastards) unfortunately my wife’s mouse decided to die INSIDE her truck and it seems to have died in a unreachable area inside the dash. The poor woman had to deal with the smell for 2 weeks. A mechanic we know tried to check around the cabin air filter again to no avail.
Anyways he sprayed some “new car spray” inside the cabin so now the smell is gone BUT she has rattling of ACORNS in the cabin the mechanic thinks it’s in the air conditioning duct work and DOES NOT want to start ripping the dash apart a vehicle that has 11,241 miles on it.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA’S

To ALL ranger owners (my wife’s ranger is a 2019 with 12,440 miles on it) better have your mechanic put a screen over the air intake for the Heating A/C system as mice got into my wife’s truck and started storing acorn nuts in the ductwork. So I brought the vehicle to my Ford dealer they said it could cost $1,400 to remove the dash and get the nuts out and it’s NOT covered under WARRANTY.
