As some may have read from my post in the 4 banger section i have a 2.3d from an 01 ranger and i was wondering if anyone knew how hard it would be to wire it to swap it into an older truck. Thanks

carry over the harness and the pcm, and you should be good to go.

You really need the harness and ecm, and the EVTM for that year.

Your looking at around 100 different colored wires.

would any puture from 2001 for a 2.3d work, or would it have to be the one off the truck? Would a yard have the wiring harness, or would that be something I would have to order off line? And how hard is it to wire? thanks

Computer and harness from a 2.3 should work. Just get a manual one.

Once you get those parts it should be only few wires needing power and ground. Again EVTM will help with that.

A junkyard or ebay should be good places for these parts.

Electrical Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual

Any year will be fine as long as the year you choose does not have PATS. (chipped keys)

You never said what year your dropping this into.

The 2.3 has been around a very long time. A new croosmember may or may not be needed.

What engine do you have now?

So you wanna go 2.3 turbo in a project truck?

This is my guess. Not really sure why you want to swap and engine in a truck you have yet to get.

I have the 2.3 with 30xxx miles on it. I have yet to get a truck, because I was gonna see how hard a swap would be before it put money into it. Thanks

Depending on what you get you may need a trans too. Your looking at a grand plus to do a swap.

Without the truck first its kinda hard to plan one and nail down cost and difficulty.

IMHO, look for a truck with a blown up 2.3. It will be a very straight forward swap. Mostly swap over wiring harness and fuel injection stuff. You might want to consider new accessories.
