HELP! Ranger Mileage has been rolled back!
HELP! Ranger Mileage has been rolled back!
Help! I bought a used 2014 Ranger. The mileage has been rolled back. The previous owner says that his mechanic swapped the gauge cluster without informing him. How do I determine if the cluster in my Ranger is in fact the one installed from factory?
Welcome to the North American Ranger forum
You have what we call an International Ranger, Ford calls it a T6 Ranger
Our Rangers were smaller and only made from 1983 to 2011, no 2014 Rangers here
Try Australian Ranger forums, Or South African Ranger forums, they are in English language
But as for the instrument cluster, Ford changed to Digital Clusters in the mid-2000s here so probably elsewhere as well
Digital Clusters need to be matched with the engine computer to work
You can use OBD2 reader to see if the engine computers Odometer Matches the clusters odometer milage
But if someone did swap clusters then they may have changed BOTH so that match
Other than that there is not much you can do to see if there was a roll back
We have services here(like car fax) that can get vehicle histories by using VIN
You can see when/if a vehicle was in an accident and ALSO the MILEAGE anytime it was serviced or worked on if it was documented, you might see a higher odometer reading than it has now, which of course would be a dead give away of roll back
