Help Starter Problem!
Hey guys.. so this is for my old truck the 94 4.0 v6 stick... Well I had to take my trans out for a dumb reason of my flywheel bolts being very loose causing noise... Soo now I got it all back together and my starter doesent seem to want to start the truck... I tryed to start it and i turn the key the solinoid clicks and all the lights go out in the truck (AKA DOME LIGHT) now I got under there checked the wires, took it back out brought it to autozone had them check the starter they said its fine, bought a new solinoid for the hell of it. I also checked how they hooked up the cables makng shure i dident have anything backwards. So I get back i reinstall the starter and new solinoid. and same thing.. this time i cleaned and tightened the batt cables and put a jump box on it... Now this time I turned the key and held it... it clicked... then smoke alot of it came from teh starter and the batt cables where really hot??? Now wht do u think? I 4x's checked the cables and cleaned them, the only thing i can think of is the starter is crap and cant turn the motor over but can free spin like autozones test did.... what do you think guys??? also I pop started the truck that day soo nothing is bound up

One thing is certain, you burned the starter up now. Think about this, the starter spins when out of the truck and when you put it in the starter is locked up and won't turn. It sounds to me like you have something causing the starter to lock up when it's installed.
I guess when you say pop started it you mean you push started it. If so then the engine isn't locked up.
Find a mechanic to see what you are doing wrong.

I had the same thing happen to me on mine a while back, but it did'nt smoke. I ended up replacing the entire battery cable as they were too corroded to send enough juice.
You may have gotten lucky with the starter if you had a battery cable grounding somewhere. I had that happen to me on a Mercury Mistake. I turned it over after a tranny swap and the cables burned and actually caught fire!!!! My own fault though as I did'nt check the wires and one was grounded to metal....lol
The only way to tell for sure is by pulling the starter and checking it again.
