High Beams Not Working

I have recently discovered my High Beams don't work. I bought the truck just months ago therefore, Im not sure if they were working before I bought it. I have replaced the steering column switch, checked the fuses, visually checked the headlight bulbs themselves, but can't seem to find the issue. I have not replaced the bulbs but they don't seem to be blown (i can see both filaments and they look fine). Is there a relay that controls the high beams? The low beams go off when the switch is flipped. I have tested voltages at the head light (3 conductors) and I don't really know which is which as far as High, Low, and Ground but I'm getting 11.9 volts on 1 conductor when high beam is off and then 0 volts when switching to high beams. Nothing on any conductor at that point. My next stop is a bulb but I'm skeptical that both high beams are blown at the same time.

I will add that I have installed a remote start and head unit radio but don't think there is any involvement with the High beams. Thanks for any advice or leads to resolve my mystery.

I had both bulbs bad for high beams before. Couldn't believe it but was glad because it was easy cheap fix.
I would try that first cause it is easiest .

High Beams not working is a mystery.

I just replaced 1 of the headlight bulbs and still nothing. Do they both need to be replaced in order to work? I would think they are independent but it wouldn't surprise me if they both need to work? I'm at a loss. Need suggestions.

The lamps are independent of each other. To actually provide a bit more detailed info, what year is your Ranger?

2003 2 wheel drive. I'm looking to see if there is a relay that is related to High Beams but my user manual doesn't mention any inside the engine compartment power distro. Thanks in advance.

I posted this in another thread. Maybe this will provide more detail...

Neither of my high beams are working. I have checked the 30amp fuse in the engine compartment and it's fine. I have replaced the steering column switch arm and I have changed ONE dual filament bulb. Do I need to change them both in order for the Highs to work? I haven't done anything aftermarket to the Headlights. The only aftermarket is a remote start and a Headunit radio. That went smoothly and I don't think that anything I did would disrupt the High beams? When looking in the manual, I don't see any relays related to the High Beams? 2003 Ford Ranger 3.0. Any help would be appreciated.

Look at fuse #11 inside the driver's side compartment. Should be a 7.5 amp. This controls, amongst other parts, the main light switch.

Number 33, also in the same compartment, is a 15 amp and is listed as controlling the head lamps.

The power distribution box seems to vary depending what engine size you have. I'm assuming you have either the 3.0 or 4.0 liter.
If so, check out fuse 24, which is a 30 amp for the headlamps.
Fuse 31 controls fog lamps and DRLs, and is a 20 amp.
38 and 42 control the left and right lowbeams respectively.

Hmm. Appears the same fuses apply for the 4cylinder too.

Unfortunately that's the most I have.

If you pull back on the stalk, lowbeams on, do the lowbeams go out or stay on? What do the highbeams do? They should remain lit while the highbeams energize.

If you push the stalk forward, the highbeams should come on and the low beams go out.

Fuse 33 was blown. I'm thankful and a little embarrassed, but the manual didn't mention that 33 was related to Headlights. I've got to double check but I scanned it multiple times because I was looking for a relay. Thanks for the help.

High BEAM not working..

From a similar situation I have a left hand high beam not working!!
I have a Toyota Hilux 2018 sr5, we are in the process of putting led light bar and spot lights on the lux. Our plan was to put led bar and spot lights through the high beam system, while doing this found the left hand high beam stopped working. Checked relays and fuses l, been through manual searched on the internet, and now signed up to this website hoping that anyone here can help a brother out!!!!!

I'm having a similar problem. Pushed the control arm forward and lights went out. Pulled it back and lights stayed out. Pulled over, shut off the truck, turned off low beams. Restarted the truck, turned on low beams, and they came on again.

Question about fuse 33: doesn't that also control the instrument cluster? Thus, if it's blown, wouldn't the instrument cluster fail, as well?

Anyway, I will try your advice and see if anything works!
