High idle

My truck idles fairly smooth. But at 1k rpm. Been reading up on the different things could be. But, there is no particular order of things to do I have found to get the idle down to 700 rpm. Am I worrying about something I probably shouldn’t? If I should worry give me a little guide of what to do first, second, etc. Thanks.

What year and engine?

4 cylinders need to idle higher

Automatic trans also needs higher idle

After engine is warmed up, and idling, unplug IAC Valve, RPMs should drop to 500 or engine may even stall, either is GOOD, it means no vacuum leaks

Cold engine idle would be 1,100rpms or so depends on outside temp, colder it is the higher the idle

After full warm up then 800rpm in park, 850 in gear

The warm "Target" idle changes depending on the year and emissions requirements, idling engines are a big polluter so very tough for car makers to pass idle emissions tests with lower RPMs, this is why newer cars shut off when stopped, then restart when you release the brake or press the gas pedal.
They need to light up and get the cat converters hot as soon as possible and then keep them hot, which is a balancing act between rich running and RPMs
