hitch any good?
hitch any good?
i found a class 3 hitch at wal-mart made be reese, i believe, and was wondering what anybody thought of the quality of a reese product. i couldnt tell from looking at the box, but will the hitch fit my truck with straight back dual tips? the box said it will fit my truck but im sure thats stock specifications. anybody tried this hitch out or know anybody that has? thanks.
My friend put a Reese hitch on his 2001 and had to "cut" his bumper brackets a little. However they may have changed the design since then, it was a couple a years ago now. The quality however is very good so you should be happy with it. Just remember to put LOTS of dielectric grease in your hitch wiring harness to keep it from corroding. The problem is its always LIVE power and once water and dirt gets in there all sorts of reactions start happening and before you know it your connector is just metal dust and green goo!

that sounds nasty
i need me a hitch, how much was it, if you dont mind me asking
^^^i dont think i looked at the price tag. i think i remember looking at it before and it wasnt much over $100 if it was, but that information may prove to be false.
ill have to look more into getting this hitch. ive got stuff to tow since my friends' and mine boat and trailer restore.

I got a Homemade receiver hitch...
But never use it yet...
I got it bolted to the tow hooks...
EDIT: I took some pics...

Yall might think I'm stupid but I made this before i know they had made a
front receiver hitch for the Rangers...

I don't think that would handle the stresses of a front mounted winch
the Reese receiver Tom & I installed is 3/8 steel and bolted to the frame in 6 points
probably the strongest part of LIL BLUE....

Yea I know...
But I think I will never use it...
but if I do use to I will find out if it does... oneday
BTW: can you show under truck pics...
See where it bolted in all...
EDIT: That look real low to the ground...
Hope you don't bottom out to hard...

thanks for highjacking my thread guys
i priced the hitch today and got a good look at the box. the hitch is adjustable and has bolts that go through the adjuster holes to lock it in place. i said no to this cuz it looked cheap and not too strong. the price was 109 and some change plus tax.

then I gave details and photos of the installed Reese and commented it was the strongest part on my Ranger
so theres no reason not to go with the adjusting hitch? anyone had problems with one? anybody used an adjusting hitch? if i could find a reason to id pick that hitch up today but not if its not going to perform.
also, how easy would it be to bend the brackets or sumthing in case it didnt fit out of the box and with adjusting?
