Horn cure

Horn cure

My 02 a has two horn setup. The high pitch horn stopped working and now when I use the horn it sounds odd. When I dismounted it, a lot of water came out of it. Strange that they would mount it so the horn opening is facing up. After I drained all I could out if it I could still hear water sloshing around in it when I shook it and it would still not work.

The dealer and Ford OEM replacement parts on-line require you buy a set of horns and want more than I would like to spend. I searched around and found that universal replacement horns require cutting the wire to put on a different style of connector. I searched more and found RockAuto.com has a single high pitch horn that is suppose to be a direct replacement. The connector looks a little different but it looks like it may work fine with the Ford connector. It is still a little more than I would prefer to spend.

I found a Fiamm Freeway Blaster on-line for $10 and that is more like what I am willing to spend. Fiamm is the manufacturer of the original Ford horn but the Freeway Blaster has a different part number. I asked for a picture of the electrical connector and is doesn't look like a direct fit but I think it would work with a little modification to the plastic around the Fiamm horn connector.

Before I committed to buying it I discovered that my original horn had dried out after being inside my house for awhile. I decided to test it and it worked again. Since the Freeway Blaster is cheap and shipping is free I think I will go ahead and order it to see it I can get it to work in case the original horn stops working again. Has anyone tried using the Fiamm Freeway Blaster and was able to use the original Ford connector?

I plan to mount the horn with the opening down to keep the water out. I doubt that will effect the sound.

So, if you are having a problem with your horn and it has water in it. You might try turning it down to get the water out and drying it. It may start working again like mine did.

I think auto parts stores have that horn in stock usually and its a direct replacement.

Yes, I did find the Fiamm Freeway Blaster in some parts stores but they want around $20. I prefer $10 on-line with free shipping. I hope it is a direct replacement.

I don't need a train horn. The original one is loud enough for me.

all you gotta do is go to a junkyard. take a drill battery with you and 2 small wires and find a horn you like. first thing i did on this truck is get rid of the mega gay wimpy horn. i dual note caddy horns now. beefy.

oh and with how i had to mount my horns, one of the horns usually gets water in it every time i wash the truck. i just take it off and turn it over and over a few times till the water finds its way out and its good as new.

I did order the Fiamm Freeway Blaster - high tone. It is basically the same horn as the original. The only thing that is different is the electrical connector. The actual pin contacts are the same but the plastic frame around the pins are different and interfere with the plastic lock connector on the OEM wiring. I ground down the plastic frame around the pin contacts and the OEM wire connector fit on the pins perfectly. The after market Fiamm horn also has spade style connectors but they do not interfere with the OEM connector.

The OEM Fiamm horn has a rubber seal around the base of the contact pins to seal out moisture. I used silicone sealant around that area of the after market Fiamm horn and around the outside after attaching the connector to help keep it from coming off since the plastic lock snaps have nothing to attach to. I also covered the spade connectors with silicone to prevent shorting in case something conductive contacted them.

I did not modify the OEM wire connector. So, I can put the original horn back on if the replacement horn ever stops working. All I will have to do is scrape of the silicone.

What did it take for the caddy horns mod?

haha, sounds like what i did. found horns out of a 89 Caddy. gotta love it.
