Horn starts and stops

04 Ranger 3l auto.
My truck has been parked for a few weeks. The security warning Horn alarm thing ,just started randomly going on and off . Some times the key fob would stop it for a few seconds. Then on again. Had to remove battery cables .

Now what would cause this.

Oh of course it was 2am. My neighbors must love me now.

Any help or info would be great
Thanks

Welcome to the forum

There is no Alarm system on a 2004 Ranger unless you added one

Horn "chirp" when locking or unlocking is just a confirmation the doors locked or unlocked

If that stops the horn from honking then the horn relay is working so the problem is you have a shorted ground wire in the steering wheel/clock spring or at the SJB(smart junction box)

I would disconnect the horn for now

The horn relay is embedded in the SJB so not a serviceable part, persay
Fuse 13 in the SJB powers the Horn and relay but also power inside lights, so you can also pull out Fuse 13 to disable horn but will lose inside lights

Here is a look at the SJB: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...horn_mod.shtml

These had a KNOWN ISSUE of getting corrosion inside the large connectors, so I would start there, expose SJB and then remove each connector and look for corrosion inside
What you are looking for here: https://i1.wp.com/sparkys-answers.co...0/DSC09929.jpg
And here: https://i0.wp.com/sparkys-answers.co...0/DSC09930.jpg

The steering wheel has 2 horn buttons inside, either GROUNDS the horn wire that runs back to the SJB, which then ground the Horn relay and horn activates
So any short to ground, in steering wheel, in clock spring, in wire from clock spring to SJB, would activate the horn relay

Also a short IN the SJB for the lock/unlock ground for horn relay would activate the horn relay

So I would start at the SJB since corrosion was a known issue
