Hose Off Axle

Hello all. Newbie here. Have a 2004 4.0 with 87K miles. Has been a great truck. Just noticed a small hose, attached on one end to the axle (driver's side) just hanging. The hanging end has a clip on it. Is this supposed to be attached to something or is it just some sort of overflow? Thank you.

One end is attached to the axle and the other end goes to nothing. Its a vent for the rear end.

Thank you both. I just clipped it up under the bed and should be OK.

That's where it should be... as high up as the hose will reach and somewhere so that water isn't able to get inside it.
