how can I get a tack?

I have a 94 4x2 4 cylinder and id really like to have a tach. Whats the best way to go about getting one. Should I buy like an autometer tach or should I get a used dash?

Swap a gauge cluster in.

Easiest way would be to buy an individual "tack", wire it and mount it.

Swapping clusters would look a lot more clean but not be as accurate or easy.

PS - It's spelled Tach, as in Tachometer.

Coil input (no idea how to do this on distributor-less cars, I know you can buy a box/kit, but there should be a wire going to cluster), switched power, ground, internal light power.

Should be four wires, it has been on all I have installed.

O'reillys or Autozone...

they start around 25 dollars

1 wire for ground
1 for a light
and 1 to tap onto the coil

very simple

On you 94 you can swap in a gauge cluster with a tach. No additional wiring is necessary and it will look very clean/stock. Its just plug and play, they are pretty easy to come by, if your looking for one and can't find one let me know, I can get them from the local junkyard all day long. You could also do something a little fancier if you wanted. This is what mine looked like, should be the same as yours, but this is with an aftermarket tach.

With that cluster should be from an 89 to 94 ranger, and 91 to 94 explorer. When you find the tach, it needs to be from a vehicle with the same amount of cylinders. Different engines put out a different tach signal to my understanding.
