Ignition Coil Brand Question

Hello All,

I am about to buy a new ignition coil as inspection has shown that it is cracked.
I have been having a slight misfire issue as well under load.

I usually buy everything on rock auto as it is convienent.

They have NGK and Denso for 38, Motorcraft for 68.

What is the word on the street. Is motorcraft usually the best answer?

I just know that NGK and Denso have a good name and are OE for many applications.

Thanks,

Bob

Yes, for a coil pack NGK is fine, for a fuel pump or IAC Valve use Motorcraft

Hello All,

Well the part came in so I put it in.

I test drove it just a bit and it seems that the truck has a lot more pep. This poor thing has been so slow so long I wonder how long it has been suffering.

I will take it out on the highway later today and see how it gets up to speed. I am optimistic that it may be the answers to all of my prayers. World peace has to take a second seat to my 0 to 60 times.

All kidding aside it always amazes me of what can go wrong with a car that you just don't notice when the bad things start, classic insidious onset.

Post people I know tease me that I keep fixing stuff that does not need to be fixed but as usual I do notice a difference. Why do people think all because it is old and not worth to much money that it is not worth keeping as sound as you possibly can. With little trucks like these it is not really that expensive to maintain all that needs to be maintained. This year I may have put about 1000 dollars of parts into the old girl but she drives like a new car. Now it is no Mercedes but a sound little runner is better than some beater car.

Thanks for your help.

BoB

$1,000 in a year is $83/month...........ask "the people" how much their car payment is a month

Thinking about a new coil myself; may try the NGK.
Kudos on maintaining your truck & avoiding car payments;
learning+doing the work yourself saves money & gives confidence that it's done right.

Well this repair sure turned out good.

I got 29.8 mpg since I replaced the ignition coil That may be the best I ever got in the old girl. Now I drive easy by nature but that MPG seems pretty good to me.

I have been driving around without the AC on but still this is likely an all time high.

It seems to have more power as well.
I recommend it to anyone with above 100k and the symptoms that my truck had.

Thanks

Bob
